Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Generi is the happy little creation brought to life by Kim Huston. Ever since she was a child, Kim has had a passion for being creative and making things. Often playing alone, she imagined a magical world where things like paper kites and tree-branch forts would come to life. Taking inspiration from the land of ‘Make-Believe’, Kim became determined to share her ideas and talents with others and to give back using her creativity. Starting out designing pillows and other home accessories and then moving into handbags and jewelry, Kim launched in Generi in January 2005. Dedicated to the craft and to the need to help others, Kim started her business with the promise to give 20% of her profits to charity. The charity that she decided on was Samaritan’s Purse, an organization that gives worldwide to starving families. Her hope is to bring food, shelter and the gift of education to children who might not otherwise have a chance.
Taking inspiration in everything she sees from nature, interior design and even scrapbooking, Generi has become a distinctive shop of unique accessories. All of these beautiful items are handmade by Kim. Some items are made from designer fabrics that have been donated for the cause; other items are made from one-of-a-kind vintage fabrics. At Generi, beauty in these textiles is found and new life to them is given!
A note from Kim:
Welcome to my site. I hope you love all of the items you see! I am coming up with new, fun ideas all of the time so check back often. I also hope that you share my passion for giving back (paying forward)! There are so many people that have helped me throughout my life that I wanted a way to help someone too. I have pledged to give 20% of my earnings to charity.
Every November (my birthday month), I will be sharing my charitable gifts to help fund Lung Cancer Research. I have become concerned by the amount of people dying from lung cancer. Most of the victims of this disease are not smokers and most are women. The sad thing is, that although much funding is donating to research for breast and cervical cancer, Lung Cancer Research received NONE last year. NONE!!! That’s so sad. I think most people assume that the people that get it, deserve it. But that’s not the case. We NEED to be concerned and we need to find out why there are so many people dying from it that don’t smoke. I’m care and that’s why I’m going to help.
Each item I sell every November will come with a pearl colored ribbon. Wear it with pride. Tell many!! November is Lung Cancer Awareness month. Pass it on!!!
Thank you for visiting my site!!
