Even though I design bags, I come across certain designers that make me want to give in and buy a high end bag sometimes…enter Gryson!

Definitely worth saving up for!! The Turnstyle collection REALLY caught my attention and is exactly my style. It’s a mixture between color and neutral, classic and funky, new and vintage. I LOVE the turnstyle locks on each bag and the softness of their leather. Here are some of my favorites from all of the collections!

Here they are…the after pictures! It was TONS of work but we were all really happy about the final results! I think everyone’s favorite is the kitchen which is NOT allowed to be called a kitchen but instead Cocina Cafe!

the cabinets (we added the shelf above the sink) I forgot to take a picture of the back door to the left. They open it while eating so it feels like a real cafe. It opens to deck/walkways for all the apts. We hung a litte Cafe sign above it!

Door to 'balcony' which is just a faux balcony but you can put plants on it. The apt across from them has a little puppy that sits out on their balcony!

Faux fireplace with Saint candles and nick nacks. Also the red shelf that we inherited from Des' dorm roommate! (she just abandoned it and several other items so we kept it as a reward for all the cleaning we had to do!!)

No, I’m not featured on their site (wishful thinking) BUT I do prowl their site on a daily basis. I get inspiration for fashion, costume and set designs and above all else DECORATING!! I LOVE going there and sometimes think my friends and family must think I’m a little obsessed because I often find myself saying….’I found it on Apt. Therapy…’!

I definitely have found a new love of styling and interior design that sprouted up when I was going to school. I knew I loved decorating and always looked through magazines but until I really started exploring what I love to do in my spare time, I didn’t realize how close my relationships with fashion and interior design actually were!

I have been working with the 48 Hr Film Festival team that I met about 3 years ago for a while now and have done both set and costume design. I am currently working on a new film where I will be the sole costume designer which is SUPER exciting. But I still have that pull towards the interior world. Since my daughter just acquired her first apartment with her friend Anna in Chicago and will be moving in this weekend, I have a chance to decorate another home besides my own (pics coming soon) and get a little funky with it!

Here are the before pics of the apartment (or at least one that is similar)…

Pros:

Hardwood floors
Cute little faux fireplace
Good layout in Living Room
Lots of windows in bedrooms
little deck they share with the neighbors

Cons:

Hidious ceiling fan in living room
NO CLOSET SPACE
cannot paint cabinets in kitchen
the kitchen in general is pretty…scary!

We plan on getting pretty creative and I will be there for about 3 days to help them as much as possible. I am excited about it and can’t wait to try out my styling skills. We won’t have all the furniture yet…still looking for a couch, but I think we can make it cute anyway! Stay tuned~

Of Fashion & Fairytales….(part 2)

I also helped out with photography at ‘The Dance for Life’ fundraiser. This event was amazing! The location was at the top of the IDS building. I have to say I LOVED the combination of a fashion show and dancer performance. Of course, I thought the choreography was amazing and it was done by a former classmate John-Mark Hostetler. It was fun to see his work and what he is doing now! It was definitely a unique event that was fun to be a small part of!

Of Fashion & Fairytales…(part 1)

This spring I had a couple of opportunities to again volunteer with MNFashion for MN Fashion Week. It was a lot of fun and I met some awesome people.

Secrets Fashion Agency in Mpls. It was a fashion show that told the story of Alice in Wonderland from childhood to adulthood. The clothes were amazing and the atmosphere/venue was breathtaking. We had a lot of fun working this event.

Flashion Back (to 1987)!

So I finally was asked to do the costuming for a local film project on a larger scale than what I’m used to. It will be a cast of about 40 people and I will be doing all the wardrobe designing. I’m really excited about the project and am looking forward to having another job where I can tell a story through design! I LOVE it and wish it was my full time job!!

The movie will be set in two years, 1987 and present time. This is especially fun for me because 1987 was the year I graduated from high school! We had our first meeting this week and I brought my yearbooks as inspiration (and a lot of laughs)! The best picture we found, a classmate wearing a midriff exposing, hacked off Nike t-shirt….on a guy!! The 1987 scene will mainly be shot in a dive bar so there should be shady characters all around.

Things I’m still loving from last Spring…

Forever21 never ceases to amaze me with continual ability to stay on trend and give us the items we want for our wardrobes on a timely manner! They have such a great eye for what trends to grab onto and make available at a great price. It just makes sense! I mean, why pay hundreds for designer items when the trend will be gone in a month or two. I, myself, usually go for a certain look and don’t find the need to buy something because it has a name slapped onto it and they never disappoint me!

How Time Flies…

This last Friday my daughter turned 18! It’s so hard to believe that she is now an ‘adult’ and has been here for 18 years. Time definitely does fly by. I’m so proud of her. Not knowing how the decisions you will make when you are raising your child is probably the most scary thing of all. How will you make sure to teach them everything you think they should know and stress the things you really want them to remember. It’s strange because so many people compliment me on my parenting saying I did such an awesome job and I’m a great mom but I really don’t feel like it was all me. I definitely could have made some of the same decisions with another child and not had the same positive results. She is who she is because yes, I did try and teach her all I could and I tried to stress what I thought were the most important things to learn, but she took it in and didn’t dismiss the things I said. She made the right decisions to not give in to peer pressure, to not do things that would harm herself or others, to try and do her best in school and her job. I think that it’s a collaboration and we found a way to make it work together. I know that she will continue to become a great adult and be whatever she wants to be. I have no doubt that she will become a great actress and will write amazing screen plays! I’m glad that I am her mom!
